Forgiveness from Nagas hinges on Government of India’s willingness to restore trust
The November-December 2025 issue of Nagalim Voice, the mouthpiece of the NSCN-IM, expresses deep disappointment and condemnation over what it calls the repeated betrayal of the Naga people by the Government of India. Reflecting on the Framework Agreement signed on August 3, 2015, between India and the NSCN, the editorial describes the current situation as a “deep knife wound that will take time to heal,” stating that Nagas feel “flattered again” by unfulfilled promises.
The editorial asserts that “forgiveness from the Nagas would come only when there is willingness on the part of the government of India to rebuild the broken trust.” Despite the betrayal, it adds, “the faith of the Nagas believing that there is God who decides everything on earth” remains unshaken. The editorial vows that the “fight for political justice based on the historical truth of the Nagas will continue” and that “the spirit of resilience will never depart from the Nagas.”
Drawing from history, the editorial recalls previous agreements such as the Nine Point Agreement, the 16 Point Memorandum, and the Shillong Accord as “acts of betrayal to the Naga political issue.”
It warns that India is “going the way of the past history to betray the Nagas again” by sidelining the Framework Agreement, which had been given a high-profile signing ceremony and live telecast.
The editorial accuses the government of India of “double-dealing duplicity and deceitful policy,” describing it as a “Judas kiss let-down.” It concludes that this betrayal has caused “trauma” and forced the NSCN-IM to renew its commitment to the Naga political movement, channeling “more energy and resources as demanded by the oppressive situation.”
