Nand Kishore Yadav has been appointed as the Governor of Nagaland, according to a press communique issued by Rashtrapati Bhavan on Thursday.
A member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the 73-year-old Yadav is a senior leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and served as the seventeenth Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly from 2024 to 2025. Before that, he served as cabinet minister for road construction, health and tourism in Bihar and also as the Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly.
The appointment was announced as part of a series of gubernatorial and lieutenant governor appointments approved by the President of India. The appointments will take effect from the dates the appointees assume charge of their respective offices.
The development follows the current arrangement under which Ajay Kumar Bhalla has been discharging the responsibilities of Governor of Nagaland with additional charge. Bhalla, who is serving as the 19th Governor of Manipur after assuming office on January 3, 2025, was sworn in as the 22nd Governor of Nagaland on August 25, 2025, following the demise of the then Governor of Nagaland, La. Ganesan.
Among other appointments announced, Shiv Pratap Shukla, Governor of Himachal Pradesh, has been appointed as Governor of Telangana, while Jishnu Dev Varma, Governor of Telangana, will take over as Governor of Maharashtra.
Lt. General (Retired) Syed Ata Hasnain has been appointed as Governor of Bihar. RN Ravi, Governor of Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as Governor of West Bengal.
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Kerala, will discharge the functions of the Governor of Tamil Nadu.
Kavinder Gupta, Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, has been appointed as Governor of Himachal Pradesh, while Vinai Kumar Saxena, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, will serve as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. Taranjit Singh Sandhu has been appointed as the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
