Peren, August 25 (MTNews): The 37th National Eye Donation Fortnight (25th August to 8th September 2022) under the theme “Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav” got underway at District Hospital, Peren, on Thursday. It is a 15 day celebration of the gift of sight.
Dr K. Limatula Ao, Medical Superintendent, District Hospital, Peren delivered the keynote address and Dr Y. Renbothung Lotha , SMO, DH Peren gave exhortation speech. They encouraged the general public to come forward for eye donation and raise awareness of the life changing impact of eye donation and the gift of sight.
Resource person Dr Lydia Ndang, Opthalmologist, spoke on the eligibility criteria, age, and indication for donor. She also highlighted that only person with corneal blindness are eligible for donor eye and the need to retrieve the cornea from the donor within 6 to 8 hours after death. The program concluded with signing of pledge card for eye donation.
