Mokokchung, 4 December (MTNews): Following the recent signing of a Peace Agreement between the United National Liberation Front (UNLF), the Government of Manipur, and the Government of India on 29 November 2023, approximately 25 leaders and cadres of the National Revolutionary Front Manipur (NRFM), a Meitei underground outfit, led by Major Boicha (Vice Chief of Army Staff of NRFM), along with 25 weapons, joined UNLF on 2 December 2023.

With this development, a significant number of the outfit’s members have taken a step away from the path of violence, PIB reported. The move is expected to provide momentum to the Government of India’s efforts to restore peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Notably, NRFM, formerly known as the United Revolutionary Front, was established on 11 September 2011 by cadres of three factions of KCP, a Meitei underground outfit. Its senior leaders operated from bases in a neighboring country and were involved in violence and extortion across various parts of the Manipur Valley, the report said.

“This development is likely to inspire other Meitei underground outfits to participate in the peace process and pursue their demands democratically, aligning with the Modi Government’s vision of an ‘Insurgency-free and prosperous North East,” PIB added.
