Mokokchung, October 1 (MTNews): The National Voluntary Blood Donation Day was celebrated at Mount Olive College Kohima on October 1 under the theme “Donating Blood is an act of Solidarity, Join the Effort to save Lives”. The celebration was organized by VBD Association Kohima with the Project Director, Nagaland State Aids Control Society, DH&HF Dr. Akuo Sorhi as special guest and Voluntary Blood Donors who turned up to donate blood to observe the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day celebration.
Dr. Akuo Sorhi said the day must be celebrated extensively to make people aware of the facts and myths about blood donation and to overcome the fear, ignorance, and misconception associated with this noble cause. She also urged the Voluntary Blood Donors to continue to be the Ambassadors and link to this noble act of life-saving.
To celebrate Voluntary Blood Donation Day, the Blood Bank Naga Hospital Authority Kohima awarded certificates to three organizations- Voluntary Blood Donors Association Kohima, Blood Caritas, and Network of Blood Donors for their contribution.
The event was jointly supported by Nagaland Aids Control Society, Blood Bank NHAK, Red Ribbon Club, Mopungchuket Students’ Union Kohima, and Imprint and Fusion Press.
It may be noted that the source of blood is only through blood donation; The Voluntary Blood Donors Association Kohima (VBDAK) has been assisting many patients in times of emergency through voluntary blood donation.
The VBDAK has launched an Android app called the “Nagaland Blood Donors” in the playstore where one can get registered as a Voluntary Blood Donor to donate as well as to receive blood in times of need.
A total of 32 voluntary blood donors donated blood on the occasion of Voluntary Blood Donation Day.
