Kohima, 9 May (MTNews): The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has directed all heads of institutions registered under the board to inform and issue necessary instructions to their students to refrain from using electronic cigarettes and similar devices. It further stated that special drives, including random frisking at school levels, may be carried out to ensure that such products are not being used or sold.

The directive also highlighted that the GoI has prohibited electronic cigarettes and similar devices through the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes (Production, Manufacture, Import, Export, Transport, Sales, Distribution, Storage, and Advertisement) Act, 2019, in the interest of public health.

An electronic cigarette or vape is a device that simulates tobacco smoking and contains potentially harmful substances such as nicotine, lead, and cancer-causing agents.

“Availability/ use of electronic cigarettes in the premises of Educational Institution must be kept in check and initiative aimed at educating and sanitizing students and teachers at schools must be taken to create awareness about the menace as well as the above Act,” it said.
