The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), in collaboration with Lend A Hand India (LAHI), conducted a two-day orientation programme on skill education for heads of NBSE-registered private schools in Kohima and Dimapur on November 2 and 3.

The programme saw participation from 82 private schools, including 34 from Kohima and 48 from Dimapur, and aimed to familiarise school leaders with the skill education framework under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023.

Delivering the keynote address, NBSE chairperson Rangumbuing Nsarangbe highlighted the need to integrate practical skills with academic learning to address educated unemployment and prepare students for the changing world of work.

He stressed that vocational education should not be treated as a supplementary subject but as an integral part of students’ learning. He also called for greater participation from private schools, which account for nearly 70% of student enrolment in Nagaland.

Nsarangbe said vocational education had expanded to more than 180 government schools and around 160 private schools in the state. He emphasised the importance of equipping young people with relevant skills and competencies to achieve the vision of Viksit Nagaland 2047.

During the technical sessions, Lend A Hand India training lead Nehali Ayare and Avanti Harne introduced participants to the Kaushal Bodh framework for Classes 6 to 8 and Kaushal Vikas for Classes 9 and 10.

The sessions covered experiential, project-based and hands-on learning approaches, with practical activities including a catapult-making exercise, tie-and-dye work and a healthcare-related task.

The programme was chaired by Lend A Hand India officer Chinglensana Khangembam, while programme lead Richard Asoso delivered the context-setting address. NBSE academic officer Dziesevolie Tsurho proposed the vote of thanks.
