The Naga Common Platform (NCP) unanimously passed three key resolutions today at a major stakeholders’ rally held at Agri Expo, calling for an early and comprehensive solution to the protracted Naga political issue.
Organized by the Nagaland Gaon Buras Federation in collaboration with several apex civil society organisations, the rally’s resolution specifically supported the landmark agreements previously signed between the Government of India (GOI), the NSCN (IM), and the Working Committee of NNPGS.
The NCP urged the GOI to implement a political settlement based on the Framework Agreement and Agreed Position, emphasizing that after a century of political struggle and 28 years of negotiations, the burden on the peace-loving Naga people is immense.
In its statement, the NCP called on Naga negotiators and the GOI to heed the voices of all stakeholders and collectively bring the talks to a logical conclusion with a comprehensive agreement.
The resolution was endorsed by members of the NCP Organising Committee, including Convener Shikuto Zalipu, Secretaries Akhu Naga and Zanbenthung Ezung, and members Zhovehu Lohe, Khekiye K. Sema, Dr. Kiekugha Mum, Khondao Ngullie, Theja Therieh, Sulanthung Lotha, Khehovi V. Chopi, Zasivikho Zakiesato, Vikato Achumi, Kholie Kapfo, Hokuto Zhimomi, Richard Kuki, Yalermo Kikon, Nungsang Jamir, Rokovitso, and John Konyak.
Addressing the gathering, organizing committee member K K Sema stressed the need for a unified, transparent and inclusive platform to address the Indo-Naga political issue. He raised concerns over fragmentation within the Naga movement, rampant illicit taxation by various groups and lack of transparency in negotiation processes.
Sema urged the NSCN to be more forthcoming with the public, noting that the future of the Naga people “cannot be decided in secrecy.” Other speakers also echoed the demand for an early and honourable solution, emphasising the urgency of ending the prolonged political stalemate.
