The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and the NDPP Parliamentary Party held a joint meeting on Thursday, adopting and passing several key resolutions. The meeting, held in Kohima, addressed a range of issues ranging from appealing to the Prime Minister and the NDA government to ensure the protection of the interests of weaker sections, minorities, and all religions to reaffirming commitment to local governance and political resolutions.
Congratulating National Leadership: The House extended its congratulations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for their comprehensive victory in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections, marking the formation of the government for a third consecutive term. The House wished the Prime Minister and the NDA all the best for their upcoming tenure.
Appeal for Protection of Weaker Sections: The House made a strong appeal to the Prime Minister and the NDA government to ensure the protection of the interests of weaker sections, minorities, and all religions, emphasizing the importance of secularism and equality under the Indian Constitution.
Acknowledging the People’s Mandate: The House acknowledged and respected the mandate of the people of Nagaland in the Lok Sabha elections. It congratulated S Supongmeren Jamir, the newly elected Member of Parliament, expressing hope that he will represent the Nagas effectively and impartially.
Commitment to Party Ideals: The House resolved that the recent electoral mandate will motivate the party and its legislators to introspect, make necessary corrections, and continue pursuing the party’s commitments and manifesto. It was agreed that success or failure is a collective responsibility.
Successful Election Conduct: The House congratulated the Election Commission of India, State Election Commission, Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, state machinery, central paramilitary forces, and the people of Nagaland for conducting a successful and peaceful election.
Support for Leadership: The House reiterated its support and confidence in the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Party President Chingwang Konyak, reaffirming their collective endeavor to serve the state’s citizens.
Political Affairs and Consultative Committees: The House welcomed the State Government’s decision to form the Political Affairs Committee and the Political Consultative Committee, reaffirming its commitment to an early resolution of the Indo-Naga political issue as per the party manifesto.
Commitment to the People of Nagaland: The House assured the people of Nagaland of the NDPP’s continued commitment to their welfare, as outlined in the party’s manifesto and constitution. It also called upon the people to support the government’s efforts in ensuring the successful conduct of Urban Local Body (ULB) elections.
A copy of the resolution was made available to the media, appended by NDPP president Chingwang Konyak, and three working presidents of the party – Hovi Zhimomi, H Chuba Chang, and N Bendang Jamir.
