The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has “warmly welcomed the seven Members of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP)” who joined its ranks on May 31, 2025, along with their supporters.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the NDPP said that the joining of the seven members “does not in any way affect the existing dynamics between the NDPP and the BJP – the Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA).” Rather, the party maintained, “this will only further help in strengthening the Alliance with more members and that the PDA will grow stronger in the days to come.”

The NDPP also assured its alliance partner, the BJP, as well as the public that “the PDA will continue to function as it has been for the last seven years; albeit, stronger and more united.” The party reiterated its “collective role as a contributing member of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)” and promised to continue it “with renewed vigor and commitment.”

As for the reason behind the political crossover, the NDPP stated: “The decision of the seven Members has not been made as a random act but because they have believed in the leaderships of the respected party President, Chingwang Konyak and the Chief Minister, Dr. Neiphiu Rio.”

Describing itself as “an entity that truly feels and understands the needs and aspirations of the people,” the NDPP asserted that “the Regional party is in a better suited position to carry forward the voice of the people.”

At a time when the Indo-Naga political issue remains unresolved, the party claimed that the entry of the seven legislators “will further strengthen the NDPP as a regional party and help in furthering our agenda of pursuing the issue with all negotiating parties and the Government of India in expediting a final settlement… in our role as an active facilitator.”

Calling for broader public support, the NDPP appealed to the people “to continue and extend their support to the NDPP-led PDA Government and help in taking Nagaland to brighter horizons and build this vibrant State for our future generations to reap and benefit.”
