The Central Executive Board (CEB) of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) decided to call a General Convention following “an offer” from the Naga Peoples Front (NPF), during a meeting held on September 12 at the NDPP Central Headquarters in Kohima.
According to a press statement from the NDPP, members welcomed the NPF’s offer after receiving detailed briefings. However, as a political party registered and recognized by the Election Commission of India, the NDPP emphasized the need to follow all constitutional and democratic procedures outlined in its party constitution.
“Therefore, the CEB decided to call a General Convention of the NDPP according to the prescribed constitutional provisions where the final decision of the Party would be taken,” it said.
The meeting was attended by all members of the NDPP CEB, led by President Chingwang Konyak and the Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, who also serves as convener of the NDPP Parliamentary Board. Leaders from all central and regional bodies, including Presidents of Central Frontal Organizations, conveners of central committees, and regional office-bearers, were present. The session was chaired by Secretary General Abu Metha.
Members were briefed in detail on the developments by the President, Chief Minister, and Secretary General. Minister G Kaito Aye, representing NDPP legislators, informed the house that the Parliamentary Board had already welcomed the offer.
