A book on Ao idioms and phrases, Olong Ratet, authored by S Wati Ozüküm, was released on Friday at the Ao Riju Conference Hall by Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong.

Ao Senden president Marsanen Imsong releases Olong Ratet alongside author S Wati Ozüküm at the Ao Riju Conference Hall in Mokokchung on Friday, 10 April.

The book is a revised edition of Olong Ratet 1001, published in 2020, which contained 1,001 idioms and phrases in the Ao language. The new edition includes an additional 110 entries, taking the total to 1,111 idioms and phrases. The volume also reflects standardized Ao spelling usage.

According to the author, the idioms and phrases serve not only to preserve and promote the Ao language but also embody the wisdom, knowledge and cultural heritage passed down by ancestors. He expressed hope that readers would be enriched through the work.

The book, published by Woods Publishers, is expected to be particularly useful for students appearing in the Arangtet, the Ao proficiency examination conducted by Ao Riju. Priced at Rs 500, it will be available at leading bookstores from next week.

Speaking at the event, Imsong said the book captures the philosophy and ethos of the Ao community. “Not all people can write a book,” he said, adding that the publication is a repository of ancestral wisdom and values.
