Mokokchung Centric, a people’s group, is set to organize the 52nd edition of the New Year’s Eve ‘Watch Night Service’ at the Mokokchung Town Square (Main Police Point) on December 31, 2024. This long-standing tradition, first organized in 1972 by the Seasonal Club with blessings from the Mokokchung Town Baptist Church (MTBA), has since become a cherished part of the festive season in Mokokchung.
Over the years, the event has united people from all walks of life, fostering unity and celebration. The Mokokchung Municipal Council (MMCAMP), formerly the Mokokchung Town Committee (MTC), had traditionally organized the event. However, the MMC recently announced that it would no longer be organizing the event. In response, the Mokokchung Centric group has taken the initiative to ensure the continuation of this valued tradition.
This marks the second time that the group is organizing the event, having previously done so in 2022. This year’s event is being supported by generous contributions in the form of finances, sound systems, platform arrangements, services, and event management from well-wishers.
To secure the future of the Watch Night tradition, Mokokchung Centric has initiated efforts to mobilize resources and establish a seed fund. This fund will ensure that any group or organization willing to take up the responsibility in the future can do so without financial constraints. Contributions from the public are welcome to support this endeavor.
Mokokchung Centric has expressed gratitude to the district administration and the police department for granting permissions and providing assistance in event management. It also extended its thanks to the well-wishers and artists who have come forward to make the event a success.
Additionally, the Mokokchung Centric group shared plans to transform the event into an economic activity that promotes tourism and community engagement in Mokokchung.

The event is set to begin at 9:30 PM. The artist lineup for the night includes: Nungsangmanen Jamir, Stupid Longkumer & Icon, Moa Imchen Kohima, Moawapang, Nokchala, Imnamen A Kichu, and Chubatula. Performances will also be provided by the following bands: Force in Rhythm (FIR), Class of Music, Ajungben Band, Imolemla Pongen Featuring Cosmic Cassette, and Solace Divine.

The Additional Superintendent of Police and PRO, Mokokchung, has issued a traffic advisory for the Watch Night Service on December 31 at the Main Police Point in Mokokchung Town. According to the advisory, traffic regulations will be enforced from 9:00 PM onward.
