The Government of Nagaland held Oath of Affirmation ceremonies for newly appointed government nominees in several districts across the state on January 28, 2025. These events took place in Dimapur, Peren, and Jalukie, marking significant milestones in the strengthening of local governance.

In Dimapur, the Oath of Affirmation ceremony for the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) and East Dimapur Town Council (EDTC) was conducted at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner. Deputy Commissioner Dr. Tinojongshi Chang administered the oath to the newly elected members, emphasizing the historic importance of the event. “It has taken over two decades for this moment to materialize. With the collective effort of the Nagaland government and the unwavering support of the people of Dimapur, we have finally achieved this milestone,” Dr. Chang stated.
He also urged the new council members to work together for the betterment of Dimapur, highlighting the need for unity and commitment to ensuring progress in the region. “Only by working as one can we ensure progress and development in every aspect under Dimapur jurisdiction,” he emphasized.
This ceremony marks a new chapter for Dimapur and East Dimapur as the local bodies begin to focus on improving infrastructure, governance, and the quality of life in the district.
Meanwhile, in Peren and Jalukie, the Oath of Affirmation ceremony for government nominees was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Peren. Deputy Commissioner Hiazu Meru administered the oath for members of both the Peren Town Council and Jalukie Town Council. The nominated members for Peren are Suipeu Iheilung, Kanda Teilua, and I Heigang Zeliang, while the nominees for Jalukie are Peusuibe Hau, Enock, and Gailialung.

During his address, DC Hiazu Meru stressed the importance of municipal management, particularly regarding sanitation and ecological responsibility. “Town sanitation involves the management of waste, water, and human excretion to ensure the health of the community and protect public health,” he said, urging the members to dedicate themselves to resolving sanitation challenges in their respective towns.
The event was attended by the Zeliang Officers Association Nagaland, led by President Dr. Hiabe, along with the council chairmen of Peren and Jalukie. ADC Peren Keyirangding also spoke at the ceremony, encouraging the new members to uplift their councils with dedication and good leadership.
