In two significant ceremonies held in Kohima and Niuland, newly appointed government nominees for the respective municipal councils took their Oaths of Affirmation.
On January 29, 2025, six newly appointed government nominees for the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC) were administered the Oath of Affirmation at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kohima. The ceremony, conducted under Section 60A (1) of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Kumar Ramnikant, IAS. He welcomed the new members and expressed optimism for the future of the Council.
Chairman of the KMC, Councillor Neikhozo Suokhrie, also addressed the gathering, calling the event a milestone for the newly constituted team. “It’s an honor to have you all here today. With collaboration and determination, we will accomplish great things for our city,” he said. He further acknowledged the responsibility entrusted to the new members, noting that while they may face challenges, their collective dedication will drive the future of the Council. The six newly appointed government nominees are Vilaseto Soleho, Keneisezo, Thejapfutuo Khezhie, Dziesekhonuo, Vitso Rio, and Kezhazer Angami.
In a similar event on January 27, 2025, three newly appointed government nominees for the Niuland Town Council took their Oath of Affirmation at the DC’s Conference Hall in Niuland. The ceremony was presided over by Deputy Commissioner Sara S Jamir, who highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the government nominees under the Nagaland Municipal Act. S. Athsangla, ADC & Executive Officer of Niuland, chaired the event, which emphasized the importance of the nominees’ contributions to the development of the town.
Both ceremonies reflected the importance of local governance and the collective efforts required for the betterment of their respective communities.
