The newly elected members of the Municipal Councils in Mokokchung, Kohima, and Dimapur are set to officially assume their roles on July 5, 2024. The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to commence at 11:00 AM.
In Mokokchung, the ceremony will be held at the Conference Hall of the MMC office complex, overseen by the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Administrator of MMC, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung has said.
Meanwhile, in Dimapur, the ceremony will take place at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office.
The oath or affirmation is mandated by Section 60 A of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, and follows a specified format outlined in the legislation.
Additionally, elections for the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Dimapur Municipal Council, as per Sections 12(3) and 23 of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2003, are also scheduled for July 5, 2024.
However, when inquired, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung said the election for the Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson of the Mokokchung Municipal Council will not be held on the same day, adding that further details will be made known later.
These arrangements are in compliance with directives from the Municipal Affairs Department, Nagaland Civil Secretariat, Kohima, and are based on the official election results published in the Official Gazette by the State Election Commissioner (SEC).
