The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) held its first meeting of the year on January 15 at its base office at Kher Mahal, Dimapur, where it adopted several resolutions related to the ongoing Foothills Road construction after detailed deliberations.

The committee resolved to acknowledge and cooperate with what it described as the “kind initiative of the Apex Lotha Hoho” to jointly undertake a combined inspection visit of the Foothills Road work sites. The inspection will include all stakeholders such as Lotha civil society organizations, members of the media fraternity from both print and digital platforms, departmental officials, and contractor firms. The visit will cover nine work sites under Baghty Division, from Merapani 0-Point to the Doyang Bridge, Governor’s Camp, and Liphanyan village, and is scheduled to be held on January 21.

The NFHRCC also strongly reiterated its demand to the Government of Nagaland to immediately issue work orders to all remaining Public Works Department divisions for the second phase of the ongoing two lane Foothills Road construction under the SASCI loan scheme. The committee stressed that the work orders should be issued through an open tender process “without further delay”.

Further, the committee urged the NPWD Roads and Bridges department to immediately provide galvanized steel structural materials to the concerned contractors for the construction of five bridges under the Baghty Division. This, it said, was necessary to enable completion of the bridge works during the current working season.

At the meeting, the NFHRCC also resolved to express a belated condolence message in solidarity with the bereaved families of two departed tribal leaders. These included late Shri Shikaho Zhimomi, President of the Western Sumi Hoho, who passed away on December 16, 2025, at New Delhi, and late Dr Imchameren, Vice President of the Ao Senso Telongjem, Dimapur. Describing them as “tall leaders in our Naga fraternity in different capacities”, the committee acknowledged their visionary contributions towards the success of the NFHRCC’s goals and conveyed its deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
