The National Health Mission (NHM), Department of Health & Family Welfare, in collaboration with the Jhpiego-Nagaland Team, organized a five-day training on Expanded Packages of Services under Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC) for Staff Nurses posted at Ayushman Bharat-Health & Wellness Centers – PHC from the Districts of Mokokchung, Mon, Longleng, Kiphire, Dimapur, and Kohima on April 30, 2024. The inaugural function was held at the conference hall of the Directorate of Health & Family Welfare, Kohima.
Dr. Akuo Sorhie, Mission Director, National Health, in her keynote address, stated that Health and Wellness Centers (HWCs) have been conceptualized to provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care (CPHC), ensuring the highest possible level of health and well-being at all ages. She emphasized the need for a more comprehensive range of services due to the increased burden of non-communicable diseases. Dr. Sorhie urged nurses to commit to ensuring quality healthcare for all citizens by transforming the public healthcare delivery system in the state.
Dr. Mereninla Senlem, State Program Officer, NHM, provided an overview of CPHC, emphasizing its role in reducing out-of-pocket expenses and bringing healthcare closer to the people. She highlighted the addition of non-communicable diseases to the services provided at Health & Wellness Centers and stressed the importance of teamwork in delivering care.
Dr. R. Chubala Aier, Additional Director & SPO of the National Vector-Borne Disease Control Program, discussed the state’s efforts towards malaria elimination by 2030 and urged participants to work towards preventing vector-borne diseases.
Dr. Vizokholo Theyo, State Program Officer, National TB Elimination Program (NTEP) & Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Program (PMNDP), mentioned the program’s goal of eliminating TB by 2025. She provided insights into new technologies such as the Cough App and Handheld X-Ray with Artificial Intelligence.
The inaugural program was chaired by Dr. Manyau, Deputy Director, National Health Mission, with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Khelito Zhimomi, State Program Officer, RMNCHA+N, NHM. Over the five days, the Staff Nurses will be trained on twelve expanded packages of services, which will also count towards Continuing Nursing Education (CNE), recognized by the Nagaland Nursing Council (NNC).
During the 5 days, the Staff Nurses will be trained on the twelve (12) expanded packages of services, including Care in Pregnancy and Childbirth, Neonatal and Infant Health Care Services, Childhood and Adolescent Health Care Services, Family Planning, Contraceptive Services, and other Reproductive Health Care Services. Additionally, they will receive training in the Management of Communicable Diseases as part of National Health Programs, General Outpatient Care for Acute Simple Illnesses and Minor Ailments, Screening, Prevention, Control, and Management of Non-communicable Diseases, Care for Common Ophthalmic and ENT Problems, Basic Oral Health Care, Elderly and Palliative Health Care Services, Emergency Medical Services including Burns and Trauma, and Screening and Basic Management of Mental Health Ailments.
