Nine projects funded through various schemes of the North Eastern Council (NEC) were completed across Nagaland during July and August 2026, with a combined sanctioned cost of about Rs 79.37 crore.
The completed projects span road connectivity, afforestation, drinking water, coffee processing, tourism and cultural infrastructure across several districts of the state.
Among the major projects completed was the 8.4-km road and bridge connecting NH-29 at 7th Mile Model Village through Seithekiema C Tourist Destination to Niuland Road towards Governor’s Camp. The project was sanctioned at Rs 32.89 crore under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS-Roads).
In the cultural sector, the Konyak Heritage Complex in Mon district, sanctioned at Rs 22.78 crore, was also completed during the period. Other heritage-related projects included the Naga Indigenous Inn-cum-Learning Centre at Kijulo, Phesama, sanctioned at Rs 1.66 crore, and the Museum-cum-Library and Guest House at Chungliyimti, sanctioned at Rs 3.11 crore.
Two afforestation projects, each sanctioned at Rs 3 crore, were completed in Phek and Peren districts under the Scheme of NEC (SoNEC) 30% Focused Development Component. The projects were aimed at restoring degraded forest areas and addressing soil erosion and biodiversity concerns, with implementation involving Joint Forest Management Committees.
At Nagaland University’s Medziphema campus, a Rs 4.43-crore Clean and Safe Drinking Water Facility was operationalised on July 2. The facility is intended to serve the university campus as well as adjoining rural settlements.
A Rs 4-crore project for value addition in Nagaland’s coffee sector was completed on July 15. The project included support for coffee-roasting equipment and training aimed at strengthening local processing and entrepreneurship.
The Kohima View Point at Aradura Hills, sanctioned at Rs 4.50 crore, was also completed, adding to the state’s tourism infrastructure.
In addition to the completed projects, the NEC released Rs 33.92 lakh during July-August towards the nearly completed Tribal Artisans Resource Centre at Chumukedima, a project sanctioned at Rs 2.91 crore. A further Rs 6 lakh was provided for an awareness workshop on agarwood cultivation and trade.
The projects were taken up under different NEC interventions, including the Scheme of NEC and NESIDS-Roads, covering infrastructure as well as livelihood, environmental and cultural development.
