The Phek District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on Tuesday raised serious concern over the acute shortage of Medical Officers, revealing that nine Primary Health Centres (PHCs) under the Chief Medical Officer, Phek, including those in the newly upgraded Meluri district, are currently functioning without doctors.
The issue was highlighted during the DPDB meeting held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Hall, Phek, where Dr. Sedeu Rupreo, District Programme Manager, Phek, flagged the shortage through a PowerPoint presentation on departmental activities.
Advisor for CAWD & Taxes and DPDB Advisor, Kudecho Khamo, expressing concern over the state of healthcare services, said that healthcare remains a top priority for citizens and informed the house that the process for posting Medical Officers to the affected PHCs will be initiated soon.
The meeting also deliberated on the naming of roads and institutions after prominent Naga personalities in the district, following a directive issued by the Home Department, Government of Nagaland.
Meanwhile, ADC Phek, Thehakhrienuo Nisa, presented a report on the Inter-Departmental Sports Tournament held from November 4 to 6, 2025, during which DEF, Phek emerged as the overall champion.
Conducting the meeting, Deputy Commissioner, Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, urged officers and DPDB members to take a more proactive role in monthly mass social work programs held in Phek town. The DC also reminded heads of offices to attend DPDB meetings regularly and to ensure active departmental representation in all development activities of the district.
