Bharatiya Janata Party national working president Nitin Nabin filed his nomination for the post of BJP national president on Monday and is set to be elected unopposed on Tuesday, January 20.
Union Minister JP Nadda, along with senior leaders Amit Shah and Rajnath Singh, filed Nabin’s nomination papers at the party headquarters in Delhi.
Several BJP leaders earlier submitted nomination papers on Nabin’s behalf to K Laxman, the returning officer for the organizational election. Union ministers Nitin Gadkari, Dharmendra Pradhan, Bhupendra Yadav and Kiren Rijiju were among those present. In total, 37 sets of nomination papers were filed in his favor, each endorsed by senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, outgoing BJP president JP Nadda and several chief ministers.
Announcing the completion of the process, Laxman said, “On scrutiny, all sets of nomination papers were found to be duly-filled in the required format and were valid. Now, after the period of withdrawal, only one name, that of Nitin Nabin, has been proposed for the post of national president.” Under the BJP constitution, if only one nomination is received, the candidate is declared elected without voting.
At 45, Nabin is set to become the BJP’s 12th national president and its youngest chief. His elevation is being seen within the party as a signal of a generational shift as the BJP prepares for a packed election calendar. Senior leaders including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, JP Nadda, Nitin Gadkari and Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami attended the nomination event.
A five-time MLA from Bihar’s Bankipur constituency in Patna, Nabin was appointed national working president on December 14, 2025. He has served twice as a minister in the Bihar government and is the son of late BJP veteran and former MLA Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha. He also has a background in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.
Since December, Nabin has been closely involved in preparing the party for assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala, West Bengal and Puducherry. Speaking recently about his approach, he said, “Connecting the last person to development schemes and keeping alive a family-like bond with workers—these are the two areas we are actively working on.”
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary said, “It is a moment of joy for Bihar and a historic day for the Bharatiya Janata Party as the youngest national president, Nitin Nabin, will file his nomination today.”
