The Niuland District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) on Thursday declared 2026 as the “Year of Plantation” during its meeting held at the DC Conference Hall, Niuland.
Chairing the meeting, Deputy Commissioner and Vice Chairman of the DPDB, Sara S. Jamir, urged the concerned department officers to make necessary preparations for the successful implementation of plantation-related activities across the district.
The Deputy Commissioner also reviewed the achievements and ongoing developmental activities in the district and requested all officers to outline their respective departments’ plans and activities for the year 2026.
During the meeting, District Fisheries Officer, Fisheries Department, Dr Amenla, gave a detailed presentation on the department’s development activities and undertakings in Niuland over the past three years.
Highlighting the potential of the fisheries sector, the Deputy Commissioner said the fishery market in the district has good prospects and encouraged the department to explore effective marketing strategies that could boost the district’s economy. She also suggested the submission of a proposal for establishing a fish farm and the organisation of a fish festival in the district.
