Mokokchung, January 26 (MTNews): The Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has appealed to the top leaders of political parties in the State to ensure that space is created for encouraging women candidates to contest in the coming general elections by issuing them their party tickets.

This appeal, the NMA said, was made as it is “a time for political parties to prove their manifestos of gender equality and women empowerment.”

The NMA, which it said is a body that has stood for the rights of women including political empowerment, said, “We are well aware of some of our best women candidates who are ready and trying to get party tickets for this Election.”

“There cannot be a better time to give Naga women the opportunity to contest and represent us in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. We wish them the very best and hope that they are elected in a free and fair manner,” NMA president Abei-ü Meru and joint secretary Malsawmthangi Leyri said in their appeal letter addressed to the presidents of all the political parties.
