Mokokchung, 30 September (MTNews): The Naga Mothers Association (NMA) has strongly condemned the recent incidents of sexual violence against women and children in Nagaland and Gujarat. In a strongly worded press release, the NMA demanded immediate and severe actions against the perpetrators and has called for urgent measures to address the rising incidents of sexual violence.
Through the press release issued by its President Vilanuo Angela Yhome and Joint Secretary Vitono Haralu, the NMA also condemned the rise of sexual violence against women and children in Nagaland, and called for all schools and colleges to set up “Sexual Harassment Committees” to initiate legal action on cases of harassment and sexual violence. The NMA called for the severest action to be taken against the accused in all three cases, and for no bail to be granted.
The NMA’s press release comes in the wake of three recent incidents of sexual violence: The rape and brutal violence of a woman from Ngwalwa Village, Peren by Benjamin Terieng on 7 September 2023; The child molestation of a student at Holy Angel’s School, Tuensang by the headmaster, VJ Jose, on 19 September 2023; and he violence against a Naga woman in Ahmedabad, Gujarat by the owner of Galaxy Spa, Mohsin, on 25 September 2023.
“We call upon the law enforcing agencies to take the severest action on the accused as per the law and no bail be granted,” the NMA said on the Ngwalwa Village incident.
On the Holy Angel’s School incident, the NMA demanded that action be taken as per the POSCO Act on the arrested accused.
On the Gujarat incident, the NMA said that the viral video is shocking and severest action must be taken against the proprietor of the Spa and action be taken based on the FIR filed.
“There can be no justification for any kind of violence that threatens the security and life of a woman or child,” the NMA said.
The NMA also said that it stands in solidarity with ZMO and all the civil society organizations who have come forth to voice out for justice.
