The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has expressed grave concern over the alleged criminal actions of a sitting professor at Nagaland University, Sarat Chandra Yenisetti, from the Department of Zoology. In a statement addressed to the President of India, the NMA condemned the professor’s reported abuse of students and a lady assistant professor, which has sparked outrage within the university community.

“The Naga Mothers’ Association is shocked with the criminal actions of a sitting Professor, Dept. of Zoology as enumerated in various press statements released by the NU Scholars, NSF, NUTA, and NUNTSA over the latest criminal abuse of his student and a lady Assistant Professor by Professor Sarat Chandra Yenisetti,” read the statement.

The NMA described the professor’s actions as predatory, demanding justice and punitive measures in accordance with the law. “The NMA condemns the criminal and sexual threats and violence by the Professor on students and lady colleague and demand justice and punitive measures as per the law. His predatory actions over the years recounted are intolerable,” the NMA’s statement continued.

Further criticizing the lack of action from the university’s administration, the NMA raised concerns over the silence of the Vice Chancellor on the matter. “The silence of the Vice Chancellor on this latest violence is highly questionable. No teacher can exist in the sanctity of an academic institution making students and colleagues his prey,” the NMA stated.

The association urged the President, as the Visitor of Nagaland University, to take swift action, demanding the immediate termination of Professor Yenisetti. “That, the visitor immediately terminate Prof. Sarat Chandra Yenisetti from the service of Nagaland University for the safety of students and teachers and the prestige of this Central University in the State of Nagaland,” the statement added.

The NMA expressed confidence that the President would protect the safety and dignity of students and women within the university. “The Naga Mothers are confident that Your Excellency will protect and uphold the security of students and women in the University and issue directives for the immediate termination of his appointment in the Nagaland University,” the NMA wrote.
