Kohima, 1 April (MTNews): The Commissioner and Secretary of Health & Family Welfare Department Y Kikheto Sema said the department is expecting to receive the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) Letter of Permission or Letter of Intent within a couple of weeks to start the Medical College in Kohima.

 

Speaking to media persons in Kohima today, Kikheto said the recruitment process of the first and second batch of the faculty is already completed and are expected to join this month and May respectively, while the last batch of the recruitment will be conducted on the 14th and 15th of this month.

 

“It is the burning desire of everyone to have a Medical College in the state” he said, adding that they are on the job and working tirelessly.

 

“Assurances and affidavits were signed by him on two occasions – one on 7 February and the second on 6 March to complete all the major infrastructure, equipment and manpower faculty on or before 31 May, 2023,” he said.

 

Kikheto also informed that a MoU was also signed with the contractors to complete the teaching classroom and Library by June 30. Informing that books have arrived today and soon the library for the first year will be kept ready, he expressed hope that the equipment would be arriving soon.
