Mokokchung, 12 July (MTNews): Due to the ongoing civil war in Myanmar, the political crisis in Eastern Naga areas has given rise to a new class of individuals who are taking undue advantage for their own benefits, the NSCN-Niki claimed.
According to a press release received here from the MIP of NSCN/GPRN-Niki, some individuals from the Eastern Naga areas, who have lived and studied in Nagaland, are indulging in fundraising activities under the false pretense of providing assistance to the people suffering in Myanmar. The reality, it claimed, is that these funds are being misused for their personal interests.
“It is unfortunate and condemnable that the people suffering have no knowledge of what these corrupt individuals are using their name for,” the group maintained.
Furthermore, it alleged that certain individuals from the Burmese-occupied Naga areas are advocating for “Refugee Status” from the Government of India for Eastern Nagas. The NSCN/GPRN emphasized that “Nagas cannot be divided on the lines of citizens and refugees.”
“Nagas are Nagas and that no artificial geographical borders drawn by the occupying forces can make us lesser or more Naga,” it added.
The NSCN-Niki also called upon the Nagaland state government to learn from the example set by the Mizoram state government “who have welcomed their brethren with open arms and are assisting them in every way possible.”
“Nagaland state Government can and must do more for our Eastern brothers and sisters,” it added, expressing its commitment to unity among the Nagas and condemning any actions that may further divide the community.
“Time and again we, the Nagas have fallen prey to the divisive policies from within and outside; NSCN/GPRN cannot allow or encourage these elements from creating more division among us, by using the international boundary drawn without our consent by India and Myanmar,” it added.
