The Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) has issued a strong condemnation against the misuse of a representative image in connection with an article titled “A Retrospect of the Current Manipur Violence”, which is allegedly authored by an individual named “Imchungla Ao” from Mokokchung District. The article, widely circulated on social media in recent months, now features a photograph falsely identified as the author.

The AKM highlighted that the Facebook page Zalengam Media used the image of Ms Imkongnukla Ao, a respected civil servant from Nagaland, to represent the alleged author. Terming this act as a serious violation, the AKM stated, “This act not only spreads misinformation but also disrespects the integrity of an individual by falsely associating her image with content she has no connection with.”

Further, the AKM clarified that the name “Imchungla Ao” does not belong to any known member of the Ao community. “This fabrication demonstrates a blatant attempt to mislead the public, tarnish reputations, and create confusion,” the AKM stated, adding that it “will not tolerate such unethical and irresponsible behavior.”

The student body sternly warned those responsible for creating and disseminating the fraudulent content to “immediately cease their activities and rectify the misrepresentation.” It also announced plans to pursue legal action against any individuals or organizations perpetuating such falsehoods.

Additionally, the AKM called on media platforms and individuals to exercise due diligence when sharing content. “We appeal to all responsible media platforms and individuals to ensure the accuracy of information and the rightful use of images and identities,” the AKM urged.
