Noah’s Ark, founded by Imlisen Pongen from Dimapur on October 15, 2018 is a community of animal lovers which serves as a medium to bring like-minded people together with the same vision. The community has 3 members who like to work & help anonymously behind the screen by rescuing and helping the voiceless and by giving home to the homeless animals.

Noah’s Ark Nagaland has also been an active voice against the order of “Shoot on sight” that was implemented in various villages of Mokokchung, Tuensang and Chumukedima and certain colonies in Dimapur & Kohima.

The “shoot on sight” is an order wherein the village council authorities are given the liberty to shoot any dog that is seen loitering on the streets without the supervision of its owner which is against the Prevention of Cruelty to Anima Act, 1960.

Noah’s ark has also taken initiative of asking the animal lovers of Nagaland to take pictures showing their resentment against the “Shoot on sight” order and received almost 300 pictures from animal lovers all over Nagaland.

One of the greatest achievements by the community was the revoking of “shoot on sight” order in most of the villages by the authorities.

They have also initiated a wall art (mural) project where they spread animal positivity through art with the help of artists who volunteered for the cause.

“We hope to continue to work & fight against animal cruelty and especially spread awareness amongst the younger generation. That is our vision,” said Imlisen.

How their rescue operation works

“Whenever we receive calls or messages from concerned individuals regarding any dog or cat that’s in need of a home or needs to be rescued and if it’s within our reach, we go and rescue them, take them to the vet and if the concerned animals don’t have an owner, we put them up for adoption,” said Imlisen.

To involve community in the rescue mission, they put up posts or stories on their social media accounts allowing people to come forward and help rescue them.

According to them, they have given home to almost 200 animals so far with their latest adoption made only the previous month.

“We do a thorough background check and also lay down our terms and conditions and a round of interview before we give away the dogs or cats for adoption,” she concluded.
