The five-day North East NSS Festival 2026 got underway on July 27 at Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma, bringing together 300 National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers from all eight Northeastern states under the theme “Viksit Bharat.”
Addressing the inaugural session at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, Nagaland’s School Education Advisor Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome called upon NSS volunteers to uphold the ideals of selfless service, leadership and national integration.
Yhome said the festival provides a platform for volunteers from across the Northeast to celebrate service, cultural diversity and unity. Despite differences in languages and traditions, he said, the region remains united by a shared commitment to serving humanity.
He encouraged participants to use the festival to build friendships, exchange ideas, learn from one another and inspire positive change in their communities. He also urged them to uphold the values of the NSS with pride and commitment.
State NSS Officer, Nagaland, Ruokuovituo Zatsu said the festival would feature cultural exchanges, quiz competitions, technical sessions, sightseeing and cleanliness drives, among other activities.
An introductory note was delivered by D. Carthigueane, Regional Director, NSS, North Eastern Region. Dr. Temjenwabang, Principal of Kohima Science College, delivered the welcome address, while NSS volunteer Elvina Khangshou presented a special number.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Subenthung P. Tsopoe, Programme Officer, NSS, Kohima Science College, with Kivipu Jimomi, Chaplain, CCP, KSCJ, offering the invocation.
Organised by the State NSS Cell Nagaland, the festival is hosted by Kohima Science College in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The festival will conclude on July 31, with Roko Angami, OSD (Sports), Department of Youth Resources & Sports, expected to grace the valedictory programme.
