The team arrived in Prayagraj on January 21. Representing Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura, the delegation includes journalists from prominent media outlets such as Arunachal Front, Asomiya Pratidin, Dainik Asom, DY365, Time8, Sangai Express, The People’s Chronicle, U Peitngor, The Morung Express, HornbillTV, Summit Times, Swatantra Aawaj, Headlines Tripura, and Satyabhashan.

This initiative provides journalists from print, electronic, and digital media with a unique opportunity to report on one of the world’s largest spiritual gatherings, an update received here said. The tour aims to capture and share the cultural and spiritual essence of the Maha Kumbh Mela with audiences across the Northeast region and beyond.

Scheduled from January 13 to February 26, 2025, the Maha Kumbh Mela is deeply rooted in mythology, tracing its origins to the Samudra Manthan, or the churning of the ocean, during which drops of nectar fell at Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. The sacred bath taken during the festival symbolizes soul purification and spiritual enlightenment.

This year, Maha Kumbh is expected to host over 450 million devotees, including approximately 1.5 million international visitors—a significant increase from the 250 million attendees recorded during the 2019 Kumbh Mela.

The PIB’s media tours, organized from various regions of the country, aim to highlight the Maha Kumbh’s role in promoting unity across caste, religion, and culture.

Beyond its spiritual significance, the festival serves as a global showcase of India’s rich cultural heritage, vibrant traditions, and economic prosperity.
