The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of “political hypocrisy” and double standards, stating that the party has no moral authority to lecture others on democracy and peaceful protest.
In a press statement issued on February 22, the NPCC said it was “deeply ironic” that the BJP, which it alleged had disrupted national events in the past for political mileage, is now preaching about democratic conduct.
Referring to the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in New Delhi, the statement claimed that the BJP and its affiliates had staged protests during the international event, thereby embarrassing the country on a global platform.
The NPCC further questioned the authenticity of a recent “Made in India” technological showcase, alleging that a Chinese robot was presented as an indigenous innovation. It stated that when concerns were raised over the matter, the BJP “suddenly claimed moral authority and accused others of being undemocratic.”
Calling this “selective outrage,” the NPCC said its protest was aimed at demanding transparency and accountability, which it described as fundamental to democracy.
“If the government truly stands for Make in India, then honesty must come before propaganda,” the statement read.
The NPCC also criticised BJP leaders for staging what it described as “performative demonstrations” in front of the Indian National Congress Bhavan in Dimapur, alleging that slogans were raised “without facts.”
It maintained that democracy is “not about noise, but about responsibility,” and asserted that political double standards cannot replace truth.
“The people are watching, and they can clearly see the difference between genuine accountability and manufactured outrage,” the statement added.
