The Minority Department of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has condemned the reported physical assault on its Vice-Chairman in connection with a land dispute and called for an impartial investigation into the incident.
In a press note issued on Wednesday, the department clarified that it has “no involvement whatsoever” in the land dispute and is not taking sides in the matter, stating that its concern was limited to condemning the reported assault.
The department said violence and intimidation “cannot be justified under any circumstances” and urged the district administration and law enforcement authorities to investigate the reported assault and take appropriate action against those found responsible.
It also appealed to all parties concerned to exercise restraint, maintain peace and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.
The Minority Department further stressed that its condemnation of the alleged assault should not be interpreted as support for either party in the land dispute. It said it remained neutral on the question of land ownership and called upon the district administration to conduct a “fair and transparent investigation” into the matter.
The department said both the reported assault and the underlying land dispute should be addressed through appropriate legal and administrative processes.
The press note was issued by the Minority Department of the NPCC on September 30.
