The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) conducted a State Level Workshop to discuss and plan the execution of the Udaipur Nav Sankalp Declaration with PCC Officials, PCC Members, Frontals and Cells at Congress Bhavan, Kohima on June 1.

Speaking on the occasion, AICC Secretary I/C Nagaland, Ranajit Mukherjee exhorted the delegates to reconnect with and take the Congress’ programs, policies, ideology and principles, to the grassroots. Urging the participants to be vigilant against destructive and divisive communal forces, he said the Congress is the only party that can unite the nation and provide a harmonious environment. He further called for humility to accept the present circumstances and the courage to take the challenges facing the party, head on.

NPCC President K. Therie in his speech said the basis of the Congress’ fight is ‘Justice for all’. Adding that Congress being the party which wrote the Constitution of India, understands its application and said other parties including regional political parties have to resort to a reactionary stance as they do not have this originality. He further said this stance has led to the destruction of centuries of harmony and the emergence of religious disputes and intolerance.

Alluding that the BJP does not have any notable economists or political strategists to frame the future of the nation, he attributed this as a deficiency and the reason for their communal and religious politics to remain in power while the nation continues to regress economically and socially.

Therie further affirmed that Congress is the only party which practises true inner democracy where all are allowed to speak. This was most evident in the recent Udaipur Chintan Shivir where political workers were heard throughout he said. He further called on party workers to come forward with suggestions and opinions to take the party forward in its policies and programs.

Adding that the BJP with barely 35% of votes in the nation continues to rule because the other political parties are unable to put up a united alternative, Therie drew attention to the issue of nearly 19Lakh missing EVMs and said EVM manipulation was the cause for Congress’ losses.

He said the NPCC would take up the issue with the ECI after its reply to a representation filed by a group of NGOs and added the NPCC would continue its demand for ballot paper system wherein the VVPAT printout will be used as the ballot paper thus reducing costs as the Control Unit would no longer be needed.

Speaking on the future programs of the NPCC, Therie called on the Mahila workers to present suggestions on the implementation of 33% reservation. He also said the youth and young generations should not lose heart at this juncture. Calling on the youth to rededicate in the mission to provide a way out for upcoming generations, he said with the right government policies and efficient implementation, there is no shortage of opportunities for employing the youth towards which, the Congress has a clear vision.

The State Level Workshop was chaired by Capt GK Zhimomi, Gen Secy, NPCC while Welcome and Introductory Speech on the implementation of the Udaipur Nav Sankalp Declaration was delivered by Khriedi Theunuo, Working President and Convenor, NPCC Implementation Committee ‘Chintan Shivir Udaipur’ (Nav Sankalp Declaration). In the afternoon session, Frontal Chiefs and Cell Chairmen delivered their presentations to the House followed by discussions on various issues. The Vote of thanks was proposed by Shaboh Konyak, Gen Secy, NPCC.
