The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has expressed deep concern over the recurring blockages along the Dimapur–Kohima stretch of National Highway 29, highlighting the hardships caused to the public and the disruption of goods and passenger movement. The party also warned that such incidents pose “serious risks to safety.”

According to a statement issued by the NPCC, in a telephonic conversation held on Monday, the MP and NPCC President, S Supongmeren Jamir, spoke with RP Singh, Executive Director of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), to raise the issue. Jamir, who is currently in Brazil attending an official program, reportedly emphasized the urgency of restoring connectivity.

Meanwhile, a team of NPCC officials attempted to visit the affected site to monitor progress, but access was denied citing safety concerns. The team, however, “engaged in discussions with NHIDCL officials on the sidelines of the affected area,” the party said in a statement.

According to NHIDCL officials, “mechanical clearance of the landslide debris had been completed and the final safety inspection and formal opening were pending approval from the District Administration.” The highway has since been reopened.

While acknowledging “the prompt efforts of the District Administration and NHIDCL in addressing the crisis,” the NPCC reiterated its call for long-term corrective measures to prevent recurring disruptions and ensure uninterrupted connectivity for commuters and transporters along the vital Dimapur–Kohima route.
