Kohima, 3 May (MTNews): The Public Grievances Department (PGD) of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has raised alarm over the prolonged non-functionality of critical medical equipment at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).

In a statement released today, the PGD NPCC said that as per information received from a credible but anonymous source, a concerning issue was revealed to the PGD. It was said that the NHAK has failed to provide functioning CT-Scan and Mammogram machines for more than a year.

“This failure to maintain essential medical equipment in a government-run hospital reflects poorly on the authorities responsible for promptly addressing such irregularities,” stated the PGD, adding, NHAK, a well-established hospital serving the people of Nagaland, particularly those from rural areas who travel to Kohima for medical care, should not have non- functional machinery.

“Patients being directed to private hospitals for CT scans due to this issue highlight the financial burden faced by rural patients who expect affordable treatment at government hospitals,” the PGD added.

It further asserted that effective governance entails ensuring the welfare and dignity of the public, which includes providing reliable medical facilities.

“The apparent lack of urgency in addressing this issue by the Nagaland government reflects poorly on its functionality,” the PDG stated, asking whether NHAK operating without proper CT-Scan and mammogram machines for over a year begs the question: when will the responsible authorities take action?

Stating that the Public Grievances Department of the NPCC remains dedicated in advocating for the well-being of the people of Nagaland, irrespective of economic status, it requested the concerned authority to take the necessary action at the earliest.

“Failing which, necessary democratic action will be taken for the welfare of the people,” it added.
