The Naga People’s Front (NPF) celebrated its Advent Christmas at the party’s Central Office under the theme, ‘Glory to God in the highest’.
Rev. Thsadongse Sangtam, Pastor of Sangtam Baptist Lithro, Kohima, shared the message of God, urging participants to see Christmas not merely as a celebration but as a time to spread the gospel like a good shepherd. He emphasised that Christians should return to their communities to share the good news, come closer to God, and work for Him. “Without truly worshipping Christ, celebrating Christmas would be meaningless,” he said.
MLA and Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon described Christmas as a season of hope. He appealed to the Nagas to set aside differences and strengthen unity, stating, “Jesus Christ was born at a time when the world was in despair. Christmas is hope. If you lose hope in life, you lose everything. It is hope that keeps us alive.” Referring to conflicts in Gaza, the West Bank, and Ukraine, he highlighted the universal longing for peace and healing.
Focusing on the Naga context, he said unity remains the greatest aspiration and acknowledged efforts to foster reconciliation and cooperation. “This unity is one of the best Christmas gifts we can give to our people,” he added.
The programme began with the hymn “Joy to the World,” followed by scripture reading and prayer led by Hetoli Achumi, Vice President of the Central Women’s Wing. Chaired by Merentoshi R. Jamir, Vice President, the event featured a special song by the Central Youth Wing and a Christmas offering collected for orphanages.
