The Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) has expressed “deep concern over the disturbing rise in incidents where local Nagas have been subjected to physical assaults, harassment, and intimidation by non-Nagas within the state of Nagaland.”
In a press statement issued by its Central Headquarters, the party said such acts are “not only condemnable but also pose a serious threat to the peaceful coexistence and harmony that our society has long cherished.”
The NPF reminded that “Nagaland has always been known for its hospitality and respect towards people from diverse communities who have made this land their place of livelihood.” However, it cautioned that “the recent pattern of unprovoked assaults—whether in marketplaces, public spaces, or residential areas—has created fear and resentment among our people. These developments cannot be ignored or brushed aside as isolated incidents, for they undermine the very fabric of trust and mutual respect that holds our society together.”
Calling for immediate intervention, the NPF urged that “law enforcement agencies [must] deal firmly and swiftly with such cases so that justice is delivered and confidence is restored.” The statement further appealed to “district administrations and traditional institutions to remain vigilant and ensure that such anti-social behaviors are not allowed to grow unchecked.”
At the same time, the party appealed to the public: “At this crucial juncture, the NPF appeals to all citizens, both local and non-local, to uphold the principles of mutual respect, peace, and understanding. The party reiterates that while Nagas welcome everyone to live and work peacefully in our land, any attempt to intimidate or physically assault local citizens will not be tolerated and must be met with the full force of the law.”
The statement reaffirmed that “the NPF remains committed to safeguarding the dignity and rights of the Naga people while working for peaceful co-existence with all communities.”
