In a major political development in the Dimapur Municipal Council, two councillors of the National People’s Party (NPP) have joined the ruling Naga People’s Front (NPF), raising the NPF’s tally to 17 out of 23 wards.

Councillors Jonathan Yepthomi of Ward No. 23 and Nikali Sumi Chishi of Ward No. 7, along with their supporters, officially joined the NPF on Saturday, giving a major boost to the party’s strength in the local government. This was stated in an update shared by the Press Bureau, NPF Central HQ, Kohima.

Welcoming the two councillors at the party’s Central Office, MLA and NPF Secretary General Achumbemo Kikon said that following the merger of two regional political parties, people had realised the importance of having a strong regional political party to protect the Naga people and their identity. He also said that Chief Minister Dr Neiphiu Rio, who has taken over as party president, has inspired many to join the NPF.

Kikon stated that the NPF is a disciplined party where power lies at the grassroots level. He urged the two new members not to disappoint the mandate of the people but to deliver goods to their people.

DMC Chairman Hukheto Yepthomi, who was present on the occasion, thanked the party for welcoming the councillors and said they would carry forward the party’s principles faithfully.
