The Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF), Global Naga Forum (GNF), and the Peoples’ Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) have strongly condemned recent death threats and online harassment targeting Dr Rosemary Dzuvichu, a respected women’s leader, academic, and Adviser to the Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA).

The threats originated from a private Facebook group, ‘Unified Nagaland for Christ,’ where an individual identified as WJ Longkumer allegedly posted a message containing death threats and abusive remarks against Dr Dzuvichu on September 23, 2025. PUCL, in a letter to the Nagaland Police, described the post as a “chilling threat” and emphasized that the group has over 10,000 members, potentially inciting others to commit violence.

The letter also noted that Dr Dzuvichu, who has long championed women’s rights and human rights in Nagaland, faced similar threats in 2017 following a PIL on women’s reservation in urban local bodies.

PUCL urged the police and the State Government to take the threat seriously, prosecute the individual, and ensure the safety of Dr Dzuvichu and her family.

The NPF called the acts “a direct assault on the dignity of Naga women and on the democratic values that allow every citizen to speak, organize, and advocate for reform,” adding that such behavior is “not only morally unacceptable but also a serious criminal offence under the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology Act.” The party urged authorities to “take swift and decisive action to trace the origin of the threatening and defamatory posts, register an FIR without delay, prosecute those responsible under the law, and ensure adequate protection for Dr Dzuvichu and other women activists.”

Similarly, the GNF described the post as “vile, violent, and cowardly” and stated: “No threat or hate-filled message can silence the voice of truth, justice, and women’s dignity. This is not just an assault on one individual; it is an attack on every mother, sister, and daughter of our land.”

The GNF also raised concerns over the alleged affiliation of the individual with a paramilitary organization, urging authorities to investigate and clarify the matter publicly.

Both the NPF and GNF reaffirmed their solidarity with Dr Dzuvichu and the Naga Mothers’ Association, warning that “allowing such criminal intimidation to go unchecked will embolden those who seek to silence women’s voices and undermine hard-won progress in Nagaland.”

The PUCL letter was signed by Dr V Suresh, General Secretary, and Kavita Srivastava, President, while the GNF statement was issued by Chuba Ozukum, Convenor, and James Pochury, General Secretary.
