The Naga People’s Front (NPF) held its General Convention on Monday at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, coinciding with the party’s 63rd Foundation Day. As per Notification No. NPF-3/Meeting/2024-2028/112 dated September 18, 2025, around 5,000 active members participated in the convention.

After deliberations, the convention unanimously approved the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) into the NPF, following the resolutions adopted by the Central Office Bearers (COB) and Central Executive Council (CEC) on October 18, 2025.

The convention also unanimously elected a new team of COBs, CEC members, and office bearers of the party’s Frontals and Cells for the 2025–2030 tenure, with Dr Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland, re-elected as President of the NPF.

The convention expressed full confidence and support for Dr. Rio’s leadership both as Chief Minister and party president. It also appreciated the NDPP’s decision, led by Mr. Chingwang Konyak, to merge with the NPF, describing it as a historic move toward unifying regional political forces.

Further resolutions emphasized strengthening the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) in Nagaland, contributing to the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA), and pursuing inclusive development and peace in Nagaland and Manipur. The convention also urged the Government of India and Naga political groups to expedite negotiations for an early and honourable settlement of the protracted Naga political issue.

The NPF extended gratitude to the Church, the public, and party elders for their continued support and encourage all citizens to join the party in the interest of the Naga people.

The Resolution Committee comprises Khongjah Konyak, Senior Vice President, as Convenor; Yangerlemba, Vice President, as Member; Toniho Sheqi, Vice President, as Member; Dr Povotso Lohe, Vice President, as Member; Guoni-o Sirie, General Secretary, as Member; H Zungkum Chang, General Secretary, as Member; and Piekie Kath, General Secretary, as Member.
