The Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Wednesday inaugurated its Shamator Division Office, with party Secretary General and MLA Achumbemo Kikon calling for unity, grassroots development, and a renewed commitment to resolving public issues and the Naga political question through peaceful and democratic means.
Addressing party workers and residents at the function held at the division office premises, Kikon said the opening of the Shamator office marked an important step in strengthening the party’s organisational base at the district level.
He emphasised transparency, discipline and collective responsibility within the party, urging members to rise above internal differences and focus on public service. Highlighting his role as Chairperson of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Committee on Environment and Climate Change, Kikon expressed concern over deteriorating air and water quality and changing weather patterns, which he attributed to climate change. He stressed the need for coordinated efforts involving the district administration, town councils and public institutions for sustainable town planning, better roads and environmental protection.
Kikon also referred to discussions with officials on infrastructure projects, including proposals for improved road connectivity under the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East (PM-DevINE). He said shorter and well-planned road alignments would reduce travel time, boost the local economy and improve public safety.
Reiterating the ideological foundations of the NPF, Kikon traced the party’s evolution from earlier political formations and underlined its consistent commitment to resolving the Naga political issue through peaceful means and dialogue. He said the party’s core principles, symbol and flag have remained unchanged despite changes in nomenclature over the decades.
Calling upon party workers to prepare responsibly for upcoming elections, Kikon urged unity and cooperation at all levels, stating that the NPF must lead by example in reconciliation and public engagement.
The program was chaired by Y Tokiu, President, NPF Shamator Division, while Rev R Thsankiu, Pastor, STBC, offered the dedicatory prayer. S Keoshu Yimkhung, MLA and Advisor, Youth Resources and Sports, and Chairman, DPDB Shamator, delivered a short address. The vote of thanks was given by Chelula, President, Women Wing, NPF Shamator Division, and the program concluded with a mass prayer.
