The National People’s Party (NPP), Nagaland State Unit, has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Nagaland Legislative Assembly member P. Mongchua, who represented the 57 Thonoknyu Assembly Constituency.

Late P Mongchua, also known as Mongchua Khiamungan, passed away at his residence in Tuensang on January 26, 2026. He was among the early legislators of Nagaland and was widely regarded as a dedicated public servant known for his simplicity, integrity, and strong sense of responsibility. His contributions to public life and service to the people of Thonoknyu and the state have been remembered with respect.

Condoling the demise, NPP Nagaland president A. Nyamnyei Konyak said he was deeply saddened by the passing of the former MLA, describing him as a respected elder whose life of service had left a lasting impact on Nagaland. On behalf of the party, he extended heartfelt condolences to NPP MLA Benei M. Lamthiu, son of the late leader, and to the bereaved family, and prayed for strength and comfort for them during the time of grief.

The NPP Nagaland State Unit stated that it stands in solidarity with MLA Benei M. Lamthiu and the bereaved family and shares in their sorrow. The party also prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and solace for the family in this difficult time.
