The National People’s Party (NPP) Phek District in a statement on Friday said that the impending rockfall hazard on the Kohima-Jessami Road Package-II, specifically between Chakhabama and Kikruma near the Sedzü River, poses a significant risk to commuters.

Despite repeated appeals from various organizations and individuals, NPP Phek District stated that M/S Ratna Infra Projects Pvt. Ltd., the contractor responsible for the roadwork, has not paid any heed to the request of the public which is a total disrespect and insult to the public.

“The entire stretch of Kohima-Jessami road package-II is in its worst condition since long time back and the public have suffered dreadfully. This stretch of road is only a nightmare for the commuters to travel,” NPP Phek District said.

It also said that the public have been silently bearing all inconveniences and are patiently waiting for the completion of this project. However, it said that the escalating danger and the contractor’s continued negligence have pushed the situation beyond tolerable limits.

In response to these issues, the NPP Phek District has called on the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) to take immediate action. The NPP Phek District demanded that the current contract be terminated as recommended by the Project Monitoring Group (PMG) Phek District in their order No. DCPK/LR/2-LANE/GEN/1/2021/171 dated June 13, 2024.

The NPP Phek District also urged the NHIDCL to issue a fresh tender for the road project without any further delays.
