The Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) has flagged a shortage of suitable examination centres and the need for additional manpower and larger examination facilities amid an increasing number of candidates appearing for its examinations.
The issue was highlighted during a review meeting between Governor Nand Kishore Yadav and officials of the NPSC at Lok Bhavan, Kohima, on Tuesday.
According to the NPSC, the Commission conducted examinations for various services during 2025–26, including the Nagaland Civil Services and Allied Services Examination, NCS & NPS & Allied Services Examination, Engineering Services Examination, Medical Services Examination, Technical Services Examination and Stenographer Examination.
The NCS & Allied Services Examination alone received 16,433 applications, while the NCS & NPS & Allied Services Examination received 5,813 applications.
The Commission said the growing number of candidates was creating a shortage of suitable examination centres. It also highlighted the need to strengthen its staff and examination infrastructure to meet the increasing requirements.
The NPSC also reported that it had cleared 444 cases through Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) meetings between April and August 2026. These included 163 promotion cases and 281 regularisation cases.
During the review, the Commission outlined several measures to strengthen its examination system, including revisions to the syllabi and examination patterns for NCS, NPS and allied services, with greater emphasis on analytical ability, general awareness and administrative aptitude.
The revised syllabus and examination pattern for the Combined Technical Services Examination were also highlighted.
Looking ahead, the NPSC said it plans to introduce three-tier examinations for Combined Technical Services, enable departments to submit requisitions online and construct an examination hall at the NPSC complex.
The Commission also highlighted its adoption of digital processes, stating that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology had awarded it a certificate of appreciation for integrating its recruitment portals with DigiLocker. The Commission said the integration made Nagaland the first State in the Northeast and the third State in India to implement both DigiLocker and eSign models.
The review meeting also covered the NPSC’s organisational structure, manpower position, examination activities, DPC functioning, ongoing initiatives, achievements, challenges and future plans.
