The 1st Inter-Department Table Tennis Tournament organised by NIAPA Khelo India Centre, Chümoukedima, in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, concluded at the Indoor Stadium, Officers’ Hill, Kohima, on September 5.

The tournament saw participation from 22 departments, with 58 team matches comprising 174 total matches and 45 individual matches played across the competition. Players competed in the Team Event and Open Singles categories, providing a competitive platform for government employees from different departments.

In the Open Singles final standings, Alberto LR Rauta emerged champion and received Rs. 8,000, while Seyievilie Seyie finished runner-up with Rs. 5,000. Ihubuing Haikube secured third place and received Rs. 3,000, while Mhasivi Miachieo finished fourth.

The Team Event title was won by NPWD (EnC), which received Rs. 20,000. The Office of the Accountant General finished second with Rs. 15,000, while the Department of Youth Resources and Sports secured third place and received Rs. 10,000. The Directorate of Geology & Mining finished fourth with Rs. 5,000.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Advisor for Youth Resources & Sports S. Keoshu Yimchunger said sporting events such as the tournament could help promote physical activity, discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship among government employees.

NIAPA Managing Director Akuonuo Khezhie Yhome expressed appreciation to the participating departments, players and officials, and said the tournament provided an opportunity for people from different backgrounds to come together through table tennis. She expressed hope that the event would grow in the coming years.
