The NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung group) and the United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I) have jointly announced a boycott of India’s Independence Day celebrations on August 15, 2025, across the “WESEA region.”

In a joint statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Publicity of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagaland (GPRN), the groups declared: “As India prepares to celebrate her so-called Independence day, WESEA region will be once again imposed upon to celebrate a freedom that doesn’t exist. Freedom cannot exist on oppressed land and the WESEAN people will never celebrate the Independence of our oppressors.”

They asserted that August 15 “meant nothing to WESEA” and claimed that “our people did not become free from anything on this day.” Instead, they described it as “a painful reminder of the relentless brutality of the Indian occupational forces, who continues to wage war on WESEAN people with impunity, inflicting untold pain and suffering.”

According to the statement, “The right to self-defence of WESEAN Nations against such cruelty is regarded as terrorism but no matter what, our resolve is stronger than ever before. Every inch of WESEA is stained with the blood of WESEAN revolutionaries therefore we will never give up our quest for freedom.”

The NSCN/GPRN and ULFA-I called upon “all lovers of freedom in the so-called States of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Nagaland to reject the imposed celebration by remaining indoors on 15th August.” They stated that doing so would “stand as powerful testaments of our collective resilience against the on-going oppression.”

As India marks its 78th Independence Day, the joint statement urged, “As India unfurl its colonial flag let us unfurl the truth by exposing India’s war crimes in our Region.”

The statement was issued from the Council Headquarters on August 10, 2025, and signed by the Ministry of Information and Publicity of the NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung group).
