The NSCN/GPRN (Yung Aung group) has claimed responsibility for an armed attack on an Assam Rifles post at Tikhak Taipi village near Longvi in Changlang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Friday morning.
In a statement issued on August 14, the group claimed that the “Tactical unit of the Naga Army successfully executed an attack against the occupying security forces and the gun battle lasted for 45 minutes.”
The group claimed that its tactical unit subsequently withdrew from the area after security forces deployed reinforcements and aerial drone surveillance. It also alleged that the security forces imposed a lockdown in the area following the attack.
“Following the strike, the occupational forces immediately initiated a total lockdown of the area to conceal their losses so at this time, the exact enemy casualty figures remain unconfirmed,” the NSCN/GPRN (YA) stated. “Currently we are observing a massive influx of heavily armed enemy reinforcements, supported by extensive aerial drone surveillance, deployed in the area in a desperate attempt to secure their compromised position compelling our Unit to withdraw from the area,” it added.
Describing the attack as a “direct and necessary action” against what it termed the “continued, unjust domination of the Naga people and our sovereign nation,” the group said its armed operations would continue.
“Our position remains clear: the Naga people have the right to live with dignity and freedom,” the statement said.The group further claimed that “The Naga army will continue defending our sovereign territory and its operation against the occupying forces will intensify until we achieve our goal.”
