The NSCN-IM has accused Indian security forces of violating the ceasefire ground rules and committing human rights abuses during operations in parts of Naga areas, calling for an independent investigation into the alleged incidents.
In a statement issued through its Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the NSCN-IM alleged that security forces had been conducting unauthorised raids, door-to-door searches without judicial warrants, and militarising residential areas in TM Kasom village, Makuilongdi and nearby villages. It also alleged that four civilians had been abducted during the operations.
The group claimed that such actions constituted “a grave violation of fundamental human rights” and said civilians caught in the midst of any conflict deserved protection rather than persecution.
The NSCN-IM further alleged that the Indian security forces were violating the mutually agreed Ceasefire Ground Rules at an alarming pace, stating that the recent military activities in Naga areas had become a matter of serious concern.
It asserted that the militarisation of villages had created “zones of fear and control” and reminded the security forces that the Ceasefire Ground Rules were a bilateral agreement, not one that gave either side unilateral authority to act.
According to the NSCN-IM, the alleged violations have undermined trust and raised questions over the credibility of the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talks.
The group urged the Government of India to clarify whether it intended to pursue peace through dialogue or through the use of force, while maintaining that the Naga people remained committed to seeking a political solution.
The NSCN-IM called for an immediate and independent investigation into the alleged ceasefire violations, strict adherence to the terms of the ceasefire agreement, and international and independent human rights monitoring of the affected areas.
It said that any lasting and honourable solution to the Indo-Naga political issue should be founded on mutual trust and respect rather than the use of force.
