The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN –IM) in a statement on Monday called for Arambai Tengol to change its approach and not to treat Christians “as if to get rid of the dirt,” stating that NSCN stands for peaceful co-existence of all religious groups in Manipur.
Since the onset of the Meitei-Kuki-Zo ethnic conflict on May 3, 2023, the NSCN-IM said they have been closely monitoring the situation, despite maintaining a stance of neutrality. However, it said, recent developments have raised alarms within the organization; particularly regarding the treatment of Christians by the Arambai Tengol.
“Ironically, things are not going well as we have seen the disturbing trend towards the Christians with harassment and physical assault by the local militant group Arambai Tengol,” stated the NSCN.
According to the NSCN-IM, it is an open secret that the persons behind the formation of Arambai Tengols are those who hold or follow strong convictions or extreme principles to bring about fundamental socio-political reforms.
“Violent extremism as followed by Arambai Tengol is a threat to peace and tolerance,” added the NSCN-IM.
Given the strong animosity towards Christians, the NSCN-IM declared its intent to safeguard their interests and safety in Manipur.
